This Lady of Winterfell cocktail is a Game of Thrones inspired cocktail. This grapefruit and gin cocktail is muddled with basil to be a delightfully refreshing pink martini recipe. Inspired by one of my favorite characters, Sansa Stark and her pink King’s Landing dress. (Does have spoilers…but it’s been over a year since the last episode..sooooo)

Continuing on with our week of Game of Thrones cocktails, let’s talk Sansa Stark. I feel like you either love her or hate her. Personally, she’s one of my favorite characters from the books and the show. Yes, she was a bratty child at once but that’s what I love about her story. She’s had, what I think is one of the largest character growth in the entire show. Daenerys being the other. Sansa has gone from a nieve child to a seasoned vet playing the Game of Thrones. Plus she fed one of her abusers to his own dogs…like come on. How can you not love her? I think she is a heavy contender for the Iron Throne, but for now, I’ll settle with her being The Lady of Winterfell. In honor of my total girl crush on Sansa Stark, I’ve made a Game of Thrones party cocktail just for her. Inspired by the pink dress she wore in King’s Landing that started her rise, this gin and grapefruit cocktail is boozy and herbal. This is The Lady of Winterfell.
THE LADY OF WINTERFELL COCKTAIL
Basil and grapefruit go together too well. Throw some gin on top of it and you’ll have a cocktail fit for a (boozy) lady.
That’s basically what this cocktail is. It sits somewhere between a daiquiri and martini. It’s a little too easy to put down, as long as you use the right gin. Let’s talk gin. I bought this Esmé gin for the bottle (read that as photographing). Very rarely do I get a pretty bottle that pours out a delicious spirit, so I was incredibly surprised when it poured out this smooth citrus based gin deliciousness. That’s what you want for this cocktail. Something citrus to almost neutral avoiding the pine flavor most often noted with Tanqueray. A few go to’s would be Beefeater and Plymouth.
Into a mixing glass muddle together 1 large basil leaf or 2 small basil leaves into 1/2 ounce Triple Sec (can sub with this Orange Simple Syrup) and 2 ounces of gin. Muddle until the leaf/leaves break down and you can smell the basil. Add ice to the mixing glass and 2 ounces of grapefruit juice. Make sure it’s either freshly squeezed or 100% grapefruit juice with no sugars added. Stir together you’re ingredients until well combined. Roughly for 30 seconds.
Strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
If you’re looking to make a batch (4+) of these, start with 3/4 of the amount of gin needed and 3/4 the triple sec you need. Build up to the desired amounts by tasting as you go. The gin and triple sec can easily overpower with sweetness or booziness.

This is one of those cocktails that doesn’t even need a Game of Thrones watch part to be had. I could sip on it all the time. It’s bright, light, and elegant. It’s a summer cocktail in all the best ways. Tell me below how you are going to be watching this final season of Game of Thrones? Who is your favorite character/s? Who do you think will sit on the Iron Throne? Give me all your theories down below. Plus make sure to go read our other Game of Thrones cocktails from this week!

this sounds so tasty, i’ve recently started trying more gin drinks, sometimes i forget how refreshing it is.
I’m so glad to hear that! Gin is one of those that people get easily turned off by if they have the wrong gin for their palette. I’ve been drinking gin for a while and I’m still working my way up to the super heavy pine ones.
