This Aegon cocktail is a Game of Thrones inspired cocktail. This coffee and cognac cocktail is served like a Negroni and could possibly revive you from the dead. Inspired by our favorite Aegon Targaryen, Jon Snow. (Does have spoilers…but it’s been over a year since the last episode..sooooo)

Game of Thrones starts it’s final season this week. Game of Thrones is one of my favorite shows and stories. Yes, I’ve even read the extremely long and detailed books. They are very much worth the read! This last season feels a lot like when the final Harry Potter movie came out, bittersweet. It’s exciting to see all the story plots wrap up and see what exactly is going to happen with the iron throne. However, it’s over after that. (For the show at least.)
So we’ve decided to go out with a bang and throw one final Game of Thrones party. We will be throwing ours for the last episode of the season. Since I know a lot of you will be having yours for the first episode I wanted to share my cocktails for a Game of Thrones party to help you out. First up we’ve got Aegon. It’s a sublty bitter coffee cocktail with notes of orange peel.
Aegon Cocktail
Last season we end the show finding out the Jon Snow was, in fact, the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. Which lead to us finding out that Jon was actually born Aegon Targaryen. For obvious reasons, Uncle Ned used a different name for Aegon but at the end of the name, that is who Jon is. So in honor of our favorite bastard, I wanted to make a cocktail in his not so bastardly honor. The Aegon is essentially a coffee negroni. We removed out the Campari and traded it for bitter cold brew coffee. I used cognac to give it a slight sweetness and woody note. Then sweet vermouth to round it out into what is so familiar about a Negroni cocktail.
It only seemed fitting to use coffee for Aegon, as a cocktail of equal parts booze and coffee could surely bring you back from the dead.
Into a mixing glass filled with ice stir together equal parts cold brew coffee, cognac, and sweet vermouth until well chilled.
Add a large chunk of ice (I like these ice ball/square molds) to an old fashioned glass. Strain the cocktail into the glass. Squeeze an orange peel over the cocktail and drop it in. If you prefer to leave it out, you can.
Obviously, this cocktail will change it’s flavor notes depending on what cold brew coffee you use. When I make this I use Stok Unsweetened if you like a little touch of sweetness to your drinks you can use their Slightly Sweetened version, but I wouldn’t go any sweeter than that.

Talk about getting your blood pumping again. This surely will do it but hopefully not because half your brothers tried to kill you.
This would also make for a stellar brunch cocktail too. I mean what better way to wake up than to coffee and cognac. If you don’t have cognac on hand a bourbon with some sweet notes will work. If you solely have rye whiskey hit the cocktail with 1/4 teaspoon of simple syrup to balance it back out.
Are you throwing a Game of Thrones party? Who do you think will sit on the Iron Thorne? Are you for or against the “You’re screwing you Aunt” story line? Let me know all the details about it down below.
