There is only one thing that could turn around my bright white and colorful summer posts and that’s the tiniest sign that winter is coming. That’s right today’s post is in honor of the Game of Thrones’ season premiere this weekend!
Game of Thrones is one of B & mine’s favorite shows. This weekend we’ll be skipping our typical Sunday pizza night and pulling out all the stops for a Game of Thrones viewing party. Which will include this show-stopping melon martini called Wildfire!
If you’re familiar with the show (and if not, look away because spoilers) Wildfire is an explosive green liquid that is used in two seriously major events in the TV story. One when Tyrion wins the Battle of the Blackwater and it shows up again, where we left off last season, with Cersei using it to burn the Great Sept of Baelor.
So I knew if I was going to make an electric green cocktail for Game of Thrones, I had to set it on fire. So grab your best heatproof glassware, we’re getting you’re Game of Thrones party lit.
This cocktail is simple to make but potent to boot. All it is is Midori (any other green colored melon liqueur), watermelon vodka, and regular vodka. You give that a good hard shake with ice and pour into a heat resistant coupe or martini glass if you plan to light it on fire. If not any coupe or martini glass will work.
HOW TO LIGHT WILDFIRE ON FIRE
Warning Bacardi 151 is highly flammable. Please use caution while making this cocktail and make it in a safe environment. Elle Talk is not held liable for fires, burns, or other actions based off creating this recipe.
After pouring your cocktail into your coupe you’ll want to gently turn over a bar spoon placing it up against the inside of the glass above the liquid line. Carefully pour 1/4 ounce of Bacardi 151 on top of the spoon. Let it slowly layer over the top of the cocktail. Seal up your 151 and put it back in your liquor cabinet and wipe away any Bacardi 151 spills/drips from your working area. Then with a long stick lighter (a grill lighter), you’ll catch a flame. Let the flame from the lighter just hover over the cocktail until the Bacardi 151 catches fire. Let the fire burn out or blow out when ready to consume. Let the glass cool before drinking from it or use a straw to sip on the cocktail after the fire has been blown out!
Check out our other Game of Thrones cocktail UPDATED
UPATE: April 9, 2019. I’ve been asked how can you make this into a large batch cocktail for a party.
A. I don’t recommend setting a large batch of this on fire.
B. Since it’s a martini style cocktail, it really needs to be shaken to get the ice dilution to not make it so harsh. If you’re like to make a punch “version” (it won’t be the same but will still be the same coloring here is what I would do.
1 cup of Midori
1/2 cup of Watermelon Vodka
4 cups of Green Hawaiian Punch – it’s got enough sugar to cover not having to try to combine large amounts of simple syrup into this recipe.
Pour 6 ounces of the cocktail into a cup full of ice and serve. It will still be that bright fun Wildfire green you’re looking for but incredibly easy to make and keep re-making through a party.

How cool is this? It’s perfect for Game of Thrones and it’s even giving me some Harry Potter Slytherin vibes. I can’t wait for Sunday to get here and get all of our Game of Thrones partying started. If you’re looking to host a viewing party I’ve got a Pinterest board chalked full of delicious Game of Thrones recipes and party ideas like this one. I’ll leave it below!

A recipe on how to make a Wildfire Cocktail. This flaming Game of Thrones inspired cocktail for is caught fire with Bacardi 151 rum and sweetened by using a mix of Midori and Watermelon Vodka to make a melon martini so good you might explode. Perfect for your next Game of Thrones viewing party.
- 1 ounce Midori (or Any Melon Liqueur)
- 1/2 ounce Watermelon Vodka
- 1 ounce Vodka
- 1/4 ounce Simple Syrup
- 1 teaspoon Bacardi 151 (optional)
- Ice
-
In a shaker add your Midori, watermelon vodka, plain vodka, and simple syrup. Fill the shaker with ice to the liquid line. Give it a 30 second hard shake and strain into a heatproof coupe or martini glass (or any small heat proof glass) to serve.
-
After you’ve poured your cocktail into your heatproof coupe flip over the back of a bar spoon and slowly layer your Bacardi 151 on top of the cocktail. Putting away your 151 and clean up any drips/spill, taking a stick lighter, carefully light your cocktail by hover the flame just above the liquid surface. Once it lights, let the cocktail burn out or CAREFULLY AND GENTLY blow it out when ready to consume. Let glassware cool before consuming!
BE CAREFUL the glassware and the top layer of the cocktail will be very hot. Let it cool down before consuming the drink. Elsewise you can burn yourself. Use a paper straw to sip the cocktail from the bottom up if you don’t want to wait for it to cool all the way down.

If you do not use a heat safe/proof glass the glass can shatter. Just be smart here people.

Fantastic idea for my GOT party in April
Looks fantastic! What kind of glasses are you using? I’m having a hard time finding heat resistant champagne coupes.
Hello David,
I bought these from a local liquor store, but they don’t seem to have a branding on them.
In the past others have used whiskey glasses to make this cocktail when not able to find heat safe coupes.
This glass pours 6oz so any 6-8oz glass will work.
[…] It’s not a party until you set something on fire. Recipe, here. […]
