A fall white rum cocktail recipe for a Plum & Rosemary Daiquiri.
Over the last few days here in Texas the weather has started taking a turn for fall. We’ve had beautiful 80 degree days and 60 degree nights. Since we are still making the transition to fall, I wanted to make a cocktail that could stand up to both the end of summer, and entrance into those crisp happy hour evenings.
When you think of a daiquiri you probably think frozen, strawberries, and whipped topping. Though the daiquiri has many fancy and tropical forms, a true daiquiri is just a simple shake of sugar, lime, and white rum. A lot like making a martini! It’s light, citrusy, and delicious for all seasons. If you like margaritas you probably would love a classic daiquiri.
To take us out of the end of summer and into fall I wanted to take a route away from cinnamons and pumpkins ( I promise I’ll come back to them). In the fall plums are heading towards the end of their season. However, they end up being the most delicious now from that summer sun. They are sweet, a little tart, and juicy. Another flavor I love to play with, a lot is rosemary. I carry rosemary all the way to winter and heavily indulge in it. You might say, “I don’t know about rosemary in a drink, it sounds like too much.” I say, have a little faith in me. This cocktail is sweet, tart, and has a hint of that herby goodness. It’s light and subtle which makes it perfect for those not ready to hit the heavy cocktails that can be associated with fall.
This is an incredibly simple cocktail to make. Into a shaker muddle half a plum, 1/3 sprig of rosemary, and sugar together. Once the sugar has melted add in your white rum and lime juice. Fill the shaker to the liquid line with glass and shake for 30 shakes. Pour into a coupe or martini glass and serve with a rosemary sprig.
See, super easy but super delicious! I think sitting on a porch by enjoying the cool breeze before a football game or eating roast chicken with root vegetables for a friendsgiving. It’s not overly sweet so it pairs well with a variety of meals and aperitifs.
- 1/2 of a Medium Sized Plum
- 1/3 sprig Rosemary
- 1 1/2 ounces White Rum
- 1 ounces Lime Juice
- 1 teaspsoon Fine Sugar
- Rosemary sprig for garnish
Into a shaker muddle together your plum, sugar, and rosemary. Once the sugar is melted down add your lime juice and white rum. Add ice to the fill line and shake for 30 shakes. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass. Garnish with a rosemary sprig.
I love that this is one of those drinks you can make that is easily impressive and when you tell someone it’s a daiquiri they get a little shocked. Now that fall is starting to hit, what do you enjoy sipping?
