Now that the weather is warmer, I’m in full hosting mode. With National Wine Day this week, I wanted to have a few friends over for a casual wine-themed happy hour. If you’re looking for an easy and relaxed way to have guests over, this is the way to go. We like to provide two drink options and have a handful of nuts and cheeses hanging about. As a wine-themed happy hour, I’ll be serving Santa Margherita wines; which uphold the highest standards in quality, sustainability, eco-friendliness, vegan-friendliness, and energy efficiency. Their wines are not only delicious sippers, but also do-good ones!
Our first wine is Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. It was first introduced in the United States in 1979 and is great for entertaining, both during the day and at night. They pioneered the modern winemaking methods of Pinot Grigio (first white Pinot Grigio vinified off the skins) and are proud to be known as a benchmark of quality and innovation for the category.
Our second drink is the perfect spring wine cocktail, a Prosecco Watermelon Basil Sparkler, made with Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore. It’s an easy-to-make sparkling wine, tequila and watermelon cocktail that is fruity and light. After that, it’s the easy part, sitting around with your friends and making new memories, which is my favorite reason to host little moments like this. Want to throw your own wine-themed happy hour? KEEP HAPPY HOUR CLASSIC WITH SANTA MARGHERITA PINOT GRIGIO
When I’m looking to host guests, I like to serve something I know everyone will love. With it being white wine season, that means it’s Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio! I’ve shared before how this is one of my favorite crisp white wines, while also holding a sentimental value to me. The few times a year I get to see my dad, we always pop open a bottle and share it while we catch up. It’s one of my favorite traditions we have and I love getting to share that moment with my friends. The wine you choose should live up to the sum of the experiences that define the joy in your life, like these moments. Santa Margherita’s rich heritage, rooted in quality winemaking, is what makes their wines worthy of each of these memorable moments. Why settle for anything else?
If you’re unfamiliar with Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, taste its crisp notes of dry Golden Delicious apples and experience its clean aroma. For an occasion like this, I’d serve it with fresh cheeses. It’s the perfect wine to enjoy at home, at a restaurant or to give as a gift. Santa Margherita is truly perfect for every occasion, making it one of my top go-tos.
PROSECCO WATERMELON BASIL SPARKLER WINE COCKTAIL
To add flair to hosting a wine-themed happy hour, the second drink option available is a wine cocktail. With spring in full bloom, I kept it light with this Prosecco Watermelon Basil Sparkler using Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore. It’s fresh and bubbly with a touch herbal notes, making it an impressive cocktail that is easy to whip up.
To make this Prosecco Watermelon Basil Sparkler, you’ll need to cube watermelon into pieces until you have a ½ cup. Then, in a shaker, add the watermelon with 1 basil leaf and a ¼ ounce of lime juice. Muddle the ingredients until the watermelon breaks down and the basil begins to perfume.
Add 1 ounce of silver tequila and a ¼ ounce of simple syrup into the shaker. Fill the shaker with ice up to the liquid line and shake for 10 shakes. Strain the cocktail in a chilled coupe glass. Top off the glass with Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore.
Santa Margherita is proud to be a classic wine brand with a rich history grounded in provenance and character. What I love about it for this cocktail is it has these beautiful notes of peach, pineapple, and sweet flowers. It turns this fruity drink to a bubbly and well-rounded cocktail that feels elegant with minimal effort.
