Are you ready for more tiki? Back when we visited Oahu, many many years ago. I fell in love with the traditional luaus. They are vibrant, fun, and upbeat celebrations filled with food, drink, and entertainment. What’s not to adore? Since that trip, when summer begins to come to an end, we gather all of our friends together to throw a luau party. We’ll have a roasted pig, music, and you guessed it, tiki cocktails. It’s a time of coming together to celebrate the end of a season and the fun we had in throughout.
Even though we’re still a ways out from the luau party, I wanted to guide you to mastering your own luau party cocktails. That way no matter when you luau this summer, you’ll be set for the occasion. For party cocktails, ease is the main focus. That’s why I’ve collabed with Master of Mixes to help you create flavorful but easy tiki drinks. First up will be a Pink Hawaiian, a play off the classic frozen Blue Hawaiian drink. Followed by a boozy but fun interactive cocktail called The Pool Boy. Are you ready to ride the big wave to your own personal tiki bar?
MASTER YOUR LUAU PARTY
PINK HAWAIIAN COCKTAIL
This drink is a play on the classic Blue Hawaiian cocktail. The Pink Hawaiian is a blended cocktail that has notes of citrus, coconut, and strawberry. It’s super yummy and perfect for those steamy summer days.
Into a blender mix Master of Mixes Strawberry Colada mix, pineapple juice, white rum, orange curacao, and ice together. Cover and blend until smooth. Add to a hurricane glass or double old fashioned glass. Garnish with an orange wheel, edible flower, and pineapple leaves to give it that fun tiki look.
THE POOL BOY COCKTAIL
The Pool Boy is a charming absinthe and dark rum cocktail. Mixing the absinthe with the White Sangria really pulls out pear and green apple undertones. It’s refreshing, citrusy, and slightly sour. I serve it up with a hollowed out lime filled with blue curacao. The “pool” of the The Pool Boy, if you will. I let guests pour it in when they get their drink so they can watch the blue sink down the glass. This is B’s new favorite cocktail and it’s simplicity is enough that he can whip it up even when it’s not luau time!
Into a shaker full of ice add in Master of Mixes White Sangria mix, absinthe, dark rum, lime juice, tiki bitters, and water. Top it and give it a good shake for 10 shakes. Strain into a high ball filled to the top with ice. I prefer pebbled ice for this. Strain your cocktail over the top. Take a hallowed our lime half and carefully pour blue curacao into it. Let it float on top of your cocktail for guests pour it in!
