I’m actually not that big of a pumpkin pie fan, so when there is leftover pumpkin pie hanging around after Thanksgiving, I’m looking for ways to repurpose it. One of my favorite ways to use dessert leftovers is in milkshakes but more specifically boozy milkshake recipes. If you have guests staying multiple nights, it’s a great way to give a dessert a fresh new look. Plus, who doesn’t love a dessert-themed happy hour? (Though, leave out the bourbon if you want a non-alcoholic version!) I’ve done this with pecan pie, apple pie, tarts, and more. See how I make the recipe below!
Bourbon Pumpkin Pie Milkshake
The recipe is simple and when I mean we are using leftover pie, I mean it. We are just dumping pie in the blender. Into a blender add in two small to medium pieces of pie and 3 ounces of bourbon. I use a Ninja Foodi Blender, I was gifted it back in June from the company and since it’s replaced my older Ninja blender I had. I highly recommend it if you like making soups or your own mixers for cocktails because of the heating element.
If you already have one you’ll want to use the EXTRACT button here. Let it run its cycle. If you have a different brand of a blender, use your highest function. You really want to blend down the pie crust (and if you’re doing pecan pie, the pecans).
From there add in 1 pint of vanilla ice cream & 1/2 cup of milk. If you think a thin milkshake use up to 3/4 cup of milk. If using the SMOOTHIE feature of your blender or on a medium setting. Blend until well combined about one minute.
Pour milkshakes into two glasses. Serve with whip cream & ground cinnamon on top!
If you’d like to substitute bourbon for a vanilla vodka or pumpkin pie vodka, you absolutely could in this recipe!
- 2 slices Pumpkin Pie⠀
- 3 ounces Bourbon⠀
- 1 pint Vanilla Ice Cream⠀
- 1/2 cup Milk
Into the blender add the pumpkin pie & bourbon. Press "EXTRACT" or "HIGH" and let it blend and combine the ingredients until smooth. You want the pie crust to be in tiny pieces.
This will help from having chunky pieces of pie crust and form a more tasty milkshake. Once finished add in the vanilla ice cream and press "SMOOTHIE" or "MEDIUM". Let it blend until well combined.
Pour into two glasses. Top off with optional whip cream & cinnamon.
Pour into two glasses. Top off with optional whip cream & cinnamon. You can recreate this recipe with leftover pecan pie as well!
This is one of my favorite ways to use Thanksgiving leftovers. What is your favorite hack for repurposing leftovers? My husband loves open face Thanksgiving sandwiches. It’s everything from Thanksgiving on bread with a ton of gravy.
