Recipe is for those ages 21+.
Today is a super special blogger friend’s birthday! I want to give the biggest happiest birthday to my girl, Kasey from KaseyAtTheBat. Kasey has a blog I adore and love where she talks about sports, booze-tails, her adventures in travel, and a heavy use of Gilmore Girl gifs. Clearly, the recipe for a great blog. She’s an all around class act, and you’ve probably noticed us blowing up your Twitter feed with our thoughts on pirate emojis, and The Bachelor.
You’re looking at the start of selfies, kids. Also, we look like babies, photo circa 2006.
See, I’ve known Kasey for about 11 years now, she’s my high school sweetheart. That’s the kind of realistic high school sweethearts I believe in. Those few gal-ships that survive through hormonal teenage-hood, college, distance (800+ miles at that), and the fact that being a grown up means not talking for weeks on end. Now that we’ve added blogging to the mix, it’s re-reminded me why I’m always so lucky to have Kasey’s support on my side. She’s the person you want in your ring when the going gets tough, and that has made her a wonderful friend to have. Everyone needs a Kasey. Not to mention the girl loves a good happy hour just as much as I do.
Kasey, since I can’t be there to celebrate with you today, I’m sending you a virtual cheers across the internet. If there is anything you should know about Kasey is that she loves the Braves, she loves wine, and she’s in a maddening love affair with, Jose. Jose Cuervo. That’s why I’ve stirred you up a birthday drink just for you.
Kasey’s Sangria Margarita
Not to be confused with Santa Margarita, but you can use that too. Kasey’s Sangria Margarita has all of Kasey’s favorites. White wine, limes, triple sec, and tequila! I tried to get the Braves as a garnish, but apparently they’re booked today. Sorry, girl.
For this recipe, I used freshly squeezed juices to really brighten up the flavors and get that extra tart from the limes. As I wanted it to be more like sangria with a feel of margarita, I added grapefruit to the citrus combination which adds great brightness. I love adding sparkling water with a hint of lime to sangria for a bubbly but not watered down kick. If you really want to up this, you can replace sparkling water with prosecco or champagne. This ends up being tart, a little sweet, and a whole lot of delicious. Rim your glass with salt or sugar and it’s the perfect drink to celebrate with.
So let’s grab a pitcher, cheap dry wine, some salt, and let’s make Sangria Margarita by the liter for Kasey!
Margaritas and Sangria come together to make this delicious citrus pitcher cocktail!
- 1 Bottle 750 ml Sauvignon Blanc or Dry White Wine
- 1 cup Tequila I used Espolon, Kasey would recommend Jose
- 1 cup Sparkling Water Lime Flavored
- 1/2 cup Triple Sec
- 3/4 cup Fresh Lime Juice
- 1 cup Fresh Orange Juice
- 1/2 cup Fresh Grapefruit Juice
- Sliced oranges limes, & grapefruit
- Salt or sugar to garnish
Add your sliced fruits to a pitcher, then add your white wine, tequila, triple sec, lime juice, orange juice, and grapefruit juice. You'll want to save the sparkling water until it's time to serve elsewise it will go flat. Let it sit and come together for about an hour (the longer the better) in the refrigerator. When ready to serve add in your sparkling water, rim your glasses with sugar or salt, and serve chilled or on ice. So easy, and I hope you enjoy!
Happy Birthday, Kasey. This is going to be the best year yet, I can’t wait to see what you do with it. Cheers!
