A crockpot dessert recipe for an easy apple and pear crumble made in the slow cooker.
I’ve been on a dessert kick lately, can’t you tell? With the holidays in site my sweet tooth has been in full overload mode. I shared last week my love for pecan pie and now I want to share my husband’s favorite, anything with baked apples. He loves apple pie, apple strudel, apple pudding and today’s recipe apple & pear crumble. He loves the sweet apples with warm fall spices that go deliciously well with the crispy topping. This is a 100% husband approved recipe.
I’ll be completely honest and say doing this in a crockpot isn’t necessary. However, when I think of cooking for Thanksgiving and for the Holidays I always get worried about oven space. Do I have enough time for this food to bake? Can this go in with the ham temperature? Will I have room for another pan in the oven? This recipe is to help relieve you from the mathematics of oven overload and get you a delicious dessert. You can throw the ingredients in the crockpot, turn it on and just let it cook. That way you can focus on another food item that absolutely needs to be in the oven!
All you need is apples, pears, lemon juice, butter, crumble mix (I bought store bought but you can make your own), sugar, and a fall spice mix of nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger. You can use any apples you want, we like it sweeter so we use classic red apples!
This recipe is incredibly simple. Chop your apples and pears into quarter inch cubes and dump in the bottom of your slow cooker. Then dump in your lemon juice, sugar, and spices. Mix until fully combined. After that you cut your butter into your crumble mixture until you get tiny little crumpled balls of butter. You can use a fork but I think hands work better.
After that you just spread the mixture on and let it cook on HIGH for two hours. For the first hour leave the crockpot lid on fully closed, then into hour two leave it open a bit to let the crumble get crisp and crunchy. Leaving the lid ajar will prevent steam from building on your lid allowing your crumble topping to bake without getting soggy. Bonus is makes your house smell like heaven.
- 2 cups Chopped & Peeled Red Apple
- 2 cups Chopped & Peeled Pear
- 5 tablespoons Cold Chopped Butter
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1 tablespoons Ground Cinnamon
- 1/4 tablespoons Ground Nutmeg
- 1/4 tablespoons Ground Ginger
- 3 tablespoons Lemon Juice
- 1 10oz Crumble Topping (Box)
Start by greasing the bottom of your slow cooker. Add in your apples, pears, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. Stir until the apples and pears are fully coated in sugar and spices.
In a separate bowl combine your chopped butter and crumble topping together until you get small butter balls coated in the crumble. Evenly add crumble topping to the top of your apples and pears in the crockpot.
Close lid and cook on HIGH for one hour. Then cook on HIGH with the lid ajar for another hour or until crumble topping is crisp and bubbling.
Let sit for 10 minutes prior to serving. Serve with ice cream or whip cream on top.

I really love that combination of sweet and spice that makes this dish, divine. It’s just a simpler version of apple and pear pie! Plus how much easier could you get for a dessert option when you’ve got an array of other foods to cook?
So the question I leave you with is, do you take your crumble with whip cream or ice cream? We are whip cream fans!
