This classic spritz takes on new look with lime and san pellegrino blood orange for a delicious cocktail. This post is intended for those of the ages of 21+.
A blood orange margarita spritz is not exactly the shortest name in the cocktail dictionary. Matter of fact I had a lot of trouble putting a name to this cocktail because of its nature and build. So I went for the basic…this is what it is…name.
Let me start off by saying first, this is currently my July summer and sun jam. I could drink this all day, every day until I was orange in the face. So what is it exactly?
This orange cocktail is a margarita but it’s also a spritz. Let’s break those down for a second.
A margarita is your classic tequila, lime juice, and Cointreau. Yum!
A spritz is prosecco wine, bitter liqueur, and soda water. Even yummier!
So that make the BOMS a split straight down the middle of the two cocktails. It’s got tequila, blood orange soda, orange, and lime juice. It’s refreshing, balanced, and an easy cocktail recipe. With the addition to Aperol (think orange, rhubarb, and cinchona) it makes it a great (pre-dinner) aperitif cocktail and here at Elle Talk we’re all about that aperitif life. Aperol in my mind for this cocktail is like ketchup to fries. Not necessary but makes the whole thing that much better.
If you’re looking for a beach cocktail or summer cocktail I think this has so far been my favorite of the season. Not just with its gorgeous orange coloring but the soda use in this brings a crispness to the cocktail that keeps it from being heavy on your stomach. You know that feeling after you’ve had a couple of margaritas and you feel full? We’re avoiding that in this recipe. Bonus it’s just super easy to make. Let’s get into how to make it.
**Throwing it out there. If you choose to make this and participate in outdoor activities I have been told to remind you that, lime juice left on your skin in the sun can cause burns. Please use caution. You have been warned. Also, drink responsibly. Running a cocktail blog is needy, yall.
- 1.5 ounces Silver Tequila
- 1 ounce Aperol
- 0.5 ounce Lime Juice
- 0.5 ounce Orange Juice
- 1 ounce Blood Orange Soda
In a shaker add orange juice, lime juice, tequila, and Aperol. Fill the shaker with ice to the liquid line and shake for 20 seconds. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass. Top off with blood orange soda and garnish with an orange peel.
This could also be a really fun football themed cocktail if you’re team reps an orange color. I’m looking at you Broncos.
So down below let me know, what has been your go-to summer cocktail? Would you try this BOMS?
