Hard Cider Sour
A hard cider cocktail that is bubbly and velvety with lemon juice, gin, egg whites, and simple syrup. Easy fall entertaining cocktail!
Recently I've had apples on the brain. I think it's because my husband has all these childhood stories he likes to tell from apple picking in autumn up in Massachusetts. Even for a time in my childhood I had a backyard lined with trees and when the autumn breezes came in, I could finally bite into those gorgeous green apples. With all of this spinning in my head, I wanted to make a cocktail that had that small refreshingness of biting into your first apple for the season. With a little sweetness, lemon for acid, and egg whites for a rich velvet texture this Hard Cider Sour was born.
Now before you go running for the door, raw egg white in a cocktail is fantastic and low maintenance impressive. It creates this frothy head to a cocktail and rounds all your flavors into this medley that coats your tongue like velvet. Add in a bubbling Hard Cider below that and you've got a concoction that entertains Thanksgiving guest and is impressive without trying hard. So go and give it a try!
HARD CIDER SOUR
For this cocktail I prefer Samuel Smith's Hard Cider because it's crisp like green apples less than sweet like red. However use the hard cider you like, just take note if it's a super sweet hard cider you may want to exempt out the simple syrup in this recipe. Also because I know some will ask, you can totally sub out the gin for vodka if you are not a gin drinker!
- 2.5 oz Hard Apple Cider
- 1.5 oz Gin
- 0.5 oz Lemon Juice
- 0.25 oz Simple Syrup
- 1 Egg White
- Ground Cinnamon
Did I mention that ground cinnamon garnish gives it that extra warmth you love from cold weather cocktails? I love getting to mix warming spices with cool drinks. Plus easy entertaining am I right? Perfect for Thanksgiving cocktail hours or just to have friends over for some fall fun before the Holiday's kick off!
What is a flavor you most associate with fall? Pumpkin spice? Maybe it's cranberries! I'd love to know down below.
