I am incredibly excited to share with you that over the weekend I completed my second sprint triathlon. If you have been here awhile, you know I shared my journey to my first triathlon last summer. I went back to that same exact race, even took a few extra friends with me and had a wonderful day out on the course. You know me and that means we've got to celebrate this little moment. Not to mention this race is a little bittersweet because it's my farewell to racing for the year. My running shoes are shedding tears over it as we speak...but my knees are rejoicing. So I believe a cheers with a new cocktail is in order for a stellar race season which also included my first half marathon relay.
With it being officially Autumn, it's time to crack out the bourbon. To me the woody and spicy notes of bourbon are made for anything fall related. I love that warmth it gives you when it hits your stomach, so I wanted flavors that could play with that. Off to the stove I went (okay, hobbled because your girl is still sore) to make a spicy ginger syrup but to kick it up a notch I added in some rosemary. If you haven't had rosemary and bourbon together, honey, you are missing out. I topped the rest of this off with easy to grab Tropicana Tangerine Lemonade to give it the citrus it needed to round out the cocktail. This drink is woody, citrusy, and a little spicy. It's just the perfect fall cocktail recipe to easily celebrate these exciting race day victories!
AUTUMN BOURBON SPLASH RECIPE
You really can't beat how easy this cocktail is to make and how delicious it is. With only three ingredients that you can have easily on hand, you'll always be able to celebrate those little things in life.
ROSEMARY & GINGER SYRUP
You can buy ginger syrup in the mixer aisle of most grocery and liquor stores now. You can then re-jar it with a rosemary sprig for two days in the fridge and the herb will have released it's oil to add to the flavor.
You can also make your own ginger and rosemary syrup. It's very easy to make and will last up to a month in an airtight sterlized container in your fridge.
Into a sauce pot add in 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, 3 large crystallized ginger pieces cut in half, and one large rosemary sprig. Over medium high heat bring your mixture up to boil and stir until all the sugar has melted. Remove from heat, use tongs to remove the rosemary sprig, and let the simple syrup cool. Leaving the ginger in the pot with the syrup. I normally let it sit for an hour until it's room temperature. Before you put the cooled syrup in a airtight and sterilized jar, remove the ginger pieces. Seal the jar and put the jar in the fridge for up to a month.
- 2 oz Tropicana Tangerine Lemonade
- 1.5 oz Bourbon
- 0.5 oz Rosemary Ginger Syrup
What a season! This season has taught me so much about how far I can push myself and that I can do anything I put my mind to. If that doesn't deserve a yummy happy hour cocktail celebration, I don't know what does. So cheers to the 2017 race season. I look forward to starting it back up in 2018 with my first half marathon in January! Don't worry, I'll be blogging this new endeavor too! What is on your race season list for next year? Looking to start racing? Email me, I'd love to talk to you!
All smiles at my second triathlon! What a hot and humid day but it couldn’t hold me back. Last year I finished with a 1:08 and this year was a 1:09. After the heat of this summer and the hurricane my heart just wasn’t in training in August and Sept but to come back this strong reminds me I can do anything I set my mind to. Thanks to all the wonderful women I met today and to all the fabulous friends who joined in on the race. I hope it fulfilled you in a way it does for me. Can’t wait for what’s to come next! . . . . #Tri #triathlontraining #triathlete #swimbikerun #sprinttri #islandgirltri #triathlonlife #fitnessfun #raceday #trilife #roadbike #texastri #5k #swimmer #trievents #swim #bikeriding #nikeshoes #runningshoes #sprinttriathlon #goggles #cruiser #runningday #runninggirl #runninglife #trilife
