Last year we bought an Air Fryer and ever since people ask me if it was worth it. The short answer is, yes! While there are just some thing that require oil to properly fry, it has given us a way to find healthier alternatives to some of our favorite fried foods. Since Sunday Fundays and Game Days are starting back up, I wanted a way to make sliders that were somewhat healthier and didn’t require me standing over a hot stove, missing the game. Thus these air fryer crispy buffalo chicken sliders were born. Buffalo anything makes me weak in the knees and these mini sandwiches are no exception to the rule. Top them with ranch, pickles, blue cheese, or whatever you want. They are a hit and have just the right amount of heat. So bar them with your favorite beer! Alright my mouth is watering at the word buffalo, let’s get into making these.
AIR FRYER BUFFALO CHICKEN SANDWICHES
What I love about this recipe is that it’s pretty versatile. You can coat the chicken in other sauces, leave it plain, make chicken wings or make full size sandwiches instead of sliders! Obviously timing will vary in a few of those but use your best judgement. Plus the crispy coating is eggless, so if you are lacking eggs, you can still make this.
As for buffalo sauce, use what you love. Personally I love Whataburger (Texas, gal!) buffalo sauce or Sweet Baby Rays because they both extra vinegary.
TIP: If you don’t have buttermilk combine together 1 cup of buttermilk and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Let sit for 5 minutes. Use in replacement of buttermilk in this recipe.

In a large bowl combine together buttermilk, 1 teaspoon of buffalo sauce, and the pickle juice. Add the chicken pieces to the bowl and stir to combine. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 30 minutes in the fridge.
It can sit overnight if you would like to make this ahead of time.
In a medium sized bowl whisk together flour, salt, paprika, black pepper, garlic powder, and baking powder.
Taking the marinated chicken pieces, add 2 tablespoons of the buttermilk marinade to the flour mixture. Whisk until combined and small clumps have formed.
Begin adding in 2-3 chicken pieces are a time to the flour mixture. Coating all sides of the chicken very well. Add to a foil lined baking sheet to rest while you flour the rest of the chicken.
Once the chicken is coated, pre-heat the air fryer. Turn it to 390 degrees and let it run for 6 minutes.
Once pre-heated spray the basket with spray a fine layer of olive oil over. Depending on the basket size work add 4-6 piece of a chicken to the basket. Cook at 390 degrees for 8 minutes. Remove from basket and set to the side.
Repeat until all the chicken is done.
In a medium sized bowl add 1.5 cups of buffalo sauce.
Working 2-3 chicken pieces at a time, coat all the chicken in buffalo sauce.
Add one crispy buffalo chicken piece to a slider bun. Top with ranch (or blue cheese) and pickle. For an extra kick add more buffalo sauce to a slider bun.
I just love these for a party, BBQ, or game day. B was eating them quicker than I could take photos of them. I can’t blame him, they are that good. It’s also nice that you don’t have hot oil splatters all over your stove, either. Anyone else despise cleaning their stove top?
