My fitness posts are back! Are you excited because I’ve got big news?! One of my race goals for 2017 was to participate in a 10K. Which would be the longest footrace I’ve been in. When I set this goal I really didn’t have a focused time for finishing besides taking it from an endurance standpoint. So basically, I just want to finish.
Well I’m officially signed up for one in March…sorta. I’ll be running a half marathon relay with my husband. Which means I’ll be running a 1/4 marathon! It’s really just a 10k with an additional 0.3 of a mile. Which, hey, should that make my next 10k even easier, right? Shhh, let me just think that.
I started training on Monday with a nice long, day off! Yup, my training schedule started with a day off and to be honest, I think that did a lot for my mind set. It made me eager to want to get into training more because to start a routine by taking it off for a day, well it sounds absurd! Needless I was itching to tie my laces and go when Tuesday came.
I’m using this 8-Week 10K training schedule I found on Pinterest but I’ve tweaked it to better accommodate my schedule. So when Tuesday did come it meant an easy alternating 2 minute run to 2 minute walk for 20 minutes. It got me almost 2 miles which is right on pace for myself. The days I don’t run like today, I do cross training. Which for me is either body strength training (using one’s own body weight to tone muscle) or bicycle. You can see it all broken down below. Tomorrow might be a rougher day, it’s been since pre-Christmas that I ran for 10 minutes consistently. Uh-oh.
As I go along, like I did with my sprint triathlon training, I’ll be posting once a month on my progress to the 10K relay and of course wrap it up with a post about how it all went down. Did I just set ANOTHER running goal? I guess we will see.
