Recapping my time at the Elan Heights Apartments where I hosted a blogger sunset happy hour.
There were a lot of amazing sponsors involved with this event but as always opinions are my own. For more information please see the disclosure page down below.
Last weekend I had the pleasure to invite a few of my blog and creative friends out to a happy hour at the Elan Heights’ Sky Lounge. Houston really has a great sense of community within it’s creatives, no matter what your art is. Each brings something different to the table from their niche and I’m incredibly grateful for their unique friendship. So, when Elan Heights offered to help host a happy hour for these ladies in their beautiful Sky Lounge, I of course said “Yes!”. The evening was filled with giggling sips, delicious sweets, and a relaxing time of watching the sun set on Houston’s downtown skyline.
Elan Heights is a new luxury apartment building in the Heights of Houston, Texas. The building is filled with stunning skyline views & modern details from the office, to the pool, to the game room, and carried right into their 1 & 2 bedroom units. For this event we used the Sky Lounge on the Penthouse level. The space is dripping with copper accents and a patio that will make your jaw drop. I knew I wanted to keep things simple and let the location talk for itself. I sent over a few photos of Elan’s space to H-E-B’s Blooms Design Studio(which is located here in Houston) and let their team design the arrangements they dreamed for the room. I’m so glad I put my trust in their work because they created arrangements that not only blended perfectly into the space for the event but elevated it. They provided a fun pop of color against the teal of the furniture and when the sun began to set, they glowed this darling green hue throughout the room.
You know it wouldn’t be an Elle Talk event though without a few cocktails. Elan was kind enough to provide the drinks for the evening from Fitcasa. I took classic happy hour drinks and made play on word names for them. The creatives had a choice of the Elan Sunset which was a vodka sunrise, a Houston Sour which was a whiskey sour, and an Elle’s Salty Blog which was your classic Salty Dog with vodka. The winner for the evening was the Elan Sunset which paired deliciously with a pod hammock on the patio and a mini lemon tart. Harold’s Restaurant provided the light bites for the evening and everyone indulged, myself included. They sent over yummy mini lemon tarts, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies and of course since they are a Southern resturant, mini pecan pies. Swoon. Ya’ll, this is one of my favorite restaurants in the Heights. You know this, I talk about it all the time. What I didn’t know is that they make the BEST peanut butter cookies I’ve ever had. To be 100% honest, I had 3 left over from the event and they didn’t survive the car ride home. They didn’t stand a chance. Needless to say, you know where I’ll be this weekend.
When I envisioned this event, I wanted it to be a time where these creative could just come to relax. I’ve been to events before that felt like you had to be shopping, or selling yourself from start to finish. Those events are fun but sometimes it’s nice to sip drinks on a patio and talk about whatever is on your heart. A time to pull up a pod chair to melt into and kick off your shoes. Which is exactly what we all did. We talked full time jobs, creative work, pets, moving, future business plans, social media, and all the small to large things in between. I’m lucky to be surrounded with women who not only inspire me but are compassionate, bright, and innovative. Plus they know how to work a good photo opportunity, obviously!
Since these ladies support this blog daily, I wanted to close out the evening by giving back to them. We held a raffle where we gave away a gift basket or in this case a reusable drink tub full of goodies. Wild Hibiscus Flower Co. kindly sent over an abundance of fun items for cocktail crafting like Pyramid Salt Hibiscus Flakes (delicious on freshly cut tomatoes, btw), Wild Hibiscus Flowers in Syrup & Rose Syrup, Hibiscus Herbal Tea, Butterfly Pea Flower Tea, Rose Hibiscus Extract, and Hibiscus Flower Extract. Not to mention a bottle of b’Lure Butterfly Pea Extract so the winner could make their own color changing Spring Fever cocktail too! Blooms Design Studio provides assorted candies from Studio Confections & Aqua De Soi candle that smells phenomenal. I also provided mini bottles of liquor, rodeo wine stoppers, and wine glass tags to top off the overflowing tub. All items that would adorn a bar cart to perfection. The winner of the gift basket was another food & drink blogger, Jazzmine from Dash of Jazz.
I am so excited I got to host an event to such wonderful creatives in the community. They made the event exactly what I wanted it to be and more. While this was the first time I hosted an event, I hope to do more in the future. It was a great time taking a vision I had for the event and watching it come to life. Then of course getting to celebrate it coming together with these wonderful ladies. I’d love to know down below, do you attend blogging events in our city? Do you host your own events? This was my first time hosting an event and I learned so much through the process. I can’t wait to do it again in the future!
