A hot or cold relaxing cocktail made with chamomile tea, Belvoir Elderflower Cordial, vodka, and lemon juice.
With the new year in full swing, it has been a nonstop festival of to-do lists, chores, & work. While some may think working from home can be a dream come true, you learn quickly that it’s hard to know when to shut it off for the day. Whether it’s paperwork that needs to be done or dusting the house. Some days I walk away stressed over stuff that 100% could wait, one more day. I think we all fall into that at some point in life regardless of where we work from.
That’s why one of my personal goals for the new year is to make time to relax. I’m going to be scheduling out time to sit back, light a candle, and do something that shuts me down for the day. One way I’m doing that is by mixing up a cocktail that helps start the relaxation process. One of my favorite ways to unwind is to make a cup of hot tea, grab a book, and a cozy blanket to curl up on the couch. Something about soothing tea just makes everything slow down and come to a halt. With tea cocktails becoming more and more popular, I thought there was no better way to make a nightcap for my new resolution. So I headed out to one of my favorite stores, Cost Plus World Market, to grab all the things I needed to make a relaxing and soothing evening drink. Bonus this cocktail can be served hot or cold to fit whatever your soothing vibe is!
To start you’ll want to make a strong tea. I found this Zhena’s Gypsy Chamomile Tea at World Market and knew it would be perfect with chamomile’s relaxing and soothing properties. I used 4 tablespoons to 8 ounces of boiling water. I then let it steep in an infusing pot for 8 minutes to get a nice strong flavor from the tea. Let your tea come to room temperature if you’re making a cold cocktail or leave it as is for a hot drink.
To make a cold Elderflower Tea Cocktail you’ll take a shaker full of ice and add 6 ounces of your room temperature (or colder) chamomile tea. Then 3 ounces of vodka and 1.5 ounces of lemon juice. To sweeten this cocktail up and give it an extra delicious flavor you’ll add in 1.5 ounces of Belvoir Fruit Farms Elderflower Cordial. It’s sweet, floral and lemony which melds perfect into this drink.
Take a bar spoon and give it a good stir around in the shaker for about 30 seconds. Strain into two tumblers or low balls full of ice, then garnish with lemon and a good book. This cocktail makes two drinks, so grab a friend to relax with or save the other for tomorrow!
- 6 oz Strong Brewed Chamomile Tea
- 3 oz Vodka
- 1.5 oz Lemon Juice
- 1.5 oz Belvoir Elderflower Cordial
Take a shaker full of ice and add in your room temperature (or colder) strong brewed tea, vodka, lemon juice, and Belvoir Elderflower Cordial. Stir for 30 seconds. Strain into two tumblers or lowballs full of ice. Garnish with lemon and serve immediately.
Into a heat safe jar or large measuring cup. Add in your hot tea, vodka, lemon juice, and Belvoir Elderflower Cordial. Stir for 30 seconds and pour between two mugs. Serve immediately with a lemon slice.
This cocktail is calming with the tea but bright enough with the lemon to hold it’s own as a cocktail. I’m kind of becoming obsessed with making it for some quality R & R time. I think next time it will join me for a dip in the bath tub, tray of ingredients to keep mixing included! It sure does make relaxing easier. I urge you to join me in making relaxing a part of your new routine for the new year.
