One year on Valentine’s Day I spent the entire day sick as a dog. I mean the worst kind of sick. The kind where you don’t want to get out of bed, your eyes are almost closed shut, and there is not enough aloe infused tissues to keep your nose from looking like Death Valley. That also so happened to be my first Valentine’s Day with B.
That year B made him famous chicken noodle soup, wrapped me up in a ton of blankets, put flowers by my bed, turned on Pride and Prejudice (my favorite romance movie) and braved getting equally as sick. It was possibly the sweetest Valentine’s Day to date. I think when someone loves you so much they are willing to risk their own health for you, it is a pretty solid way to say, I love you.
In honor of my sweet man, I decided to shake up a Valentine’s Day cocktail that brings back those sweet memories of that sick day with a drink called The Love Bug. It’s sweetened with strawberries and elderflower liqueur (St.Germain) for a bright and floral sip. I also love that it fits perfectly into these 6 ounce mason jar glasses that screams southern love, and I top it with Topo Chico to give it a bubbly burst of freshness. It’s the perfect gin cocktail.

“We are all fools in love.”
- 3 ounces Gin
- 1.5 ounces Elderflower Liqueur
- 1.5 ounces Lemon Juice
- 5 Strawberries Muddled
- Sparkling Water
In the bottom of a cocktail shaker muddle your strawberries. Then add in your gin, elderflower liqueur, and lemon juice. Add ice to the liquid line, and shake for 8 seconds. Strain into 2 six ounce glasses, and top off with sparkling water. Serve immediately.
