I’m going to start this off with making fun of myself. It took me one whole hour plus taking all of these photos, to realize that on my chalkboard sign I forgot the O in Mayo. Maybe I was just so excited about our Starbucks giveaway on Instagram (more information below). Just go ahead and give a huge round of applause for the machine that is Elle Talk and her lack of editing skills. No seriously ya’ll I have 3 plugins installed to help me edit this blog. Apparently, though, I need a life plug in. Until then I’ll just drink these spicy, sweet margaritas to ease my embarrassment and pride.
This Chili Mango Margarita is a delicious frozen treat just in time for Cinco De Mayo. Plus it’s a fun shake-up from the classic frozen margarita but a whole lot easier to make. If you’re following along with my Home Bar 101 series you will notice that on the tools to have in a bar, a blender is not one of them. I want this Cinco De Mayo cocktail to be icy and refreshing like a frozen margarita but without having to pull it out. Which means I’ll be showing you how to make a frozen margarita without a blender in this recipe! Using sorbet instead of frozen mango and sugar this cocktail is easy! Plus it’s the perfect sorbet cocktail to pair with spicy food or Mexican food!
In this recipe, I use lime juice, orange juice in replacement for Cointreau, silver tequila, chili powder (I use ancho because it’s smokey and sweet but use what’s on hand), and mango sorbet. Using sorbet lets us skip the blender but still get that icy margarita feel. IT IS DIVINE and the easiest way to make frozen margaritas! Let’s end the talking and let’s get to shaking….a lot of shaking…you will have earned this drink.
- 3.5 ounces Silver Tequila
- 7 ounces half pint Mango Sorbet
- 2.5 ounces Lime Juice
- 1.5 ounces Orange Juice
- 1/8 teaspoon Chili Powder
Let the Sorbet sit on the counter for 10 minutes prior to making. In a shaker add your sorbet, lime juice, orange juice, tequila, and chili powder. With one hand firmly on the top of the shaker and another on the bottom, shake vigorously for one minute (and I mean the full 60 seconds). Strain your margarita into two rocks glass with or without ice, your choice. Serve with a lime wedge and enjoy.
This is mild in spice so if you would like to really amp up the spice by doubling or tripling it to your taste. I like to garnish it with a chili salt rim which is just 1 tablespoon salt, 1 tablespoon chili on a flat dish. Rim your glass with lime juice and then dip the rim in the chili salt. It’s a delicious add on!
