Happy New Year!
Anyone else feeling particularly gross from all of the holiday treats and indulgences? While I’m not jumping on something like Whole 30 or a keto diet, I am lightening up what I’m consuming. You know it’s bad when you take a bite into a salad and it’s the best thing you’ve ever tasted. That means when it comes to cocktails I’m leaning more towards those with healthier ingredients and ones that leave me feeling light. Especially with a half marathon weeks away, light is key. Over the next few posts, I’ll be sharing my favorite healthier cocktail and mocktail recipes. So if you’re training, dieting, or just looking for a more guiltfree cocktail, I’ve got you covered. Today we’re starting with this light vodka cocktail, the Apple Kombucha Mule.
Last year when I started making healthier drinks you guys loved the Choc Orange Fizz kombucha cocktail I made. If your unfamiliar kombucha is fermented tea that is known to be high in probiotics. You can make it at home or get it from the store. My favorite store brand is Health-Ade Kombucha. I love their variety of flavors and how bubbly it is, which leads to fun cocktail making. (not spons, I just love it) For this Apple Kombucha Mule, I use Health-Ade’s Pink Lady Apple to get the apple notes and replace the often times, sugar-induced ginger beer in the classic Moscow Mule cocktail.
APPLE KOMBUCHA MOSCOW MULE
Moscow mules are simple cocktails originated from Smirnoff but you can use whatever vodka you prefer. Gluten-free vodkas would lighten this cocktail up even more. These are a made in glass cocktail and require minimal effort.
Into a copper mug or double whiskey glass filled with ice combine together 2 ounces of vodka, 1/2 ounce of lime juice, and 6 ounces of Pink Lady Apple Health-Ade Kombucha. Stir until well combined and serve with a lime wedge or apple slices.
It’s bubbly and light perfection. Plus with the addition of the apple kombucha, it has the slightest touch of sweetness.
Traditionally this cocktail is served in a copper mug. However, if you have a double whiskey glass or high ball glass, that will work just as well.
